Fwd: Community Information - Positive West Nile Virus Pool in The Woodlands

Positive West Nile Virus Pool in The Woodlands

The Texas Department of State Health Services has reported the first positive pool of West Nile MOSQUITOES (+WNv) within The Woodlands for 2013.  The sample was collected during surveillance the week of September 14.  Previous to that week over 600 traps had been set in the community which had not tested positive for the virus.

Response protocol by Montgomery County Precinct 3 includes street spraying in the area of the positive test site.

Residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves and their families from mosquito bites.  Stay indoors from dusk to dawn when disease-carrying mosquitoes are active.  If you must be out, wear long, loose, light-colored clothing.  Use repellent.  Apply according to label instructions.

Avoid over-watering, control run-off from irrigation systems and eliminate sources of standing water.  Check water meter boxes, French drains and plant pots.  Maintain pools and change pet water and bird baths twice a week.  Use mosquito dunks to treat sources of water that cannot be drained.

See www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/mosquitoinfo for more recommendations, or call Environmental Services at 281-210-3900.

Dear Friends,
I found this incredible wealth of information related to helpful services for the homeless population or for those in need created by the Coalition for the Homeless. Please forward to anyone in the Harris County/Houston/Montgomery County Area. Please keep in mind, sometimes those in our community who need the most help blend in with the crowd.

Suggestion: Print a few copies out. Keep them in your car or bag. The next time someone approaches asking for change give them this card, and hopefully they will find the real change that they are after.

Thanks!

ps. It personally helped answer my question regarding transportation for those who lack the finances to travel. I also feel that this is timely information to share since the weather is changing to lower temperatures. Those people who managed most of the year outdoors, now need to find warm, safe places with reliable sources of food and healthcare. This information might be the piece of the puzzle necessary for someone to leave an unhealthy environment in a urgent situation, which sometimes surfaces during winter.
