Extreme Couponing with the Krazy Coupon Lady

One of the blogs I follow is from someone who was actually on the show. Check it out: http://thekrazycouponlady.com/category/extreme-couponing/

Why I coupon/find deals/save money.

I haven't watched Extreme couponing yet, but I just wanted to say that I coupon for 2 reasons. First, l love the thrill of the deal, and second, I really am trying to live beneath my means. The more I save on every day items, the more money I have for other things.

Randalls Deals this week: Blue Bell Ice Cream at $3.50/half gallon

The new Randalls ad came out today. Here are the deals that I found:

Blue Bell Ice Cream: $3.50 each (HEB has it for $2 more!)
$1 Large Avocados.
$5 Artisan Party Bistro Cake 1/8 sheet
$1 Mangos
$0.99 Diet Coke
$1.99 Florida's OJ 64 oz.

Reminder: Randalls doubles and triples coupons. Watch your prices. Normal priced things are usually cheaper at HEB or Walmart.

Diet Coke Watch: CVS $0.88 and shopping trip vent.

Diet Coke is $0.88 this week at CVS with a Limit of 6.

I went to CVS. I had a $10 ECB that I had to use. I spent over an hour there. I get excited when I get free or cheap things, but I don't like the time it takes to do it because I am not organized. I also don't like the pressure of a deadline. I only have a $2 ECB left that I need to use up in a month. I definitely prefer CVS over walgreens now. Mainly because their rewards expire after a month instead of 2 weeks and they have coupons that print out in the store. I was also bummed today because I couldn't find my 0.25 off 3 puffs coupons, I only had a $0.75 off colgate coupon instead of a $1 off, and I only had a one $1 off always coupon instead of 2. I know it is small change. It is just the part of me that knows I could have done better if I was more on top of it. Oh, well.

At least, I got toothpaste for $0.24
Puffs for $0.94 (walgreens this week as them at $0.89)
Pads at 2 packs for $3 after $1 coupon and $1 ECB.
Olay bodywash and Olay lotion at about $4 for both after coupons and ECB. I had hoped it would have been less.
6 Diet Cokes at $0.88

I am proud that I resisted the candy promo.

They had a lot of 50% off clearance stuff that didn't interest me.

I also was annoyed because I couldn't find the Prescription transfer coupon for a $25.00 gift card.

I guess I just feel disorganized overall. I think I will feel better once I clean out my trunk and clear out my expired coupons. Time to start the new year fresh.

The movie is a documentary. You can google to watch it online or rent it. I just caught it on tv and DVRed it.

Apple Grapefruit Juice.

I tried it today for the first time at you know where. I liked it. I just had to share my surprise. My favorite drink of theirs is the pineapple-orange. Yum!

Numi Tea is cheaper at HEB than Hubble and Hudson

Hubble and Hudson definitely carry things that HEB doesn't. They both carry Numi tea. Watch your prices. Hubble and Hudson is costs about $1-$2 more and HEB often has coupons on top of it. Amazon had good prices, too. Numi Tea Bamboo Flowering Tea Gift Set is $21. The other stuff isn't at buy me prices right now. HEB wins this round. For me under $4 is a buy me price for a box of Numi tea. I love their flowering teas for special occasions.

Hubbel and Hudson: Rolls are $0.50 each.

They have a nice variety of yummy rolls at $0.50 each. I tried the brioche roll today. Yum! I also like their pretzel rolls. Lots of salt. They have lots of great cheeses and spreads to match them with.

Brooklyn Bagel Bakers Dozen: $10.50

That is a fair price for 13 bagels. They are delic! Look for 20% off coupons in various coupon magazines.

Tea at Hubble and Hudson

I just discovered the loose leaf collection at Hubble and Hudson. It is amazing! I found quite a few new teas to try in the $2/ounce range. Have fun!

Hubbell and Hudson are Open every day!

In theory you could go watch movies at Cinemark on the 25th and eat lunch at Hubbell across the street.

They are open pretty late on New Year's Eve.

Transcript of NPR's StarDate

Cool. I just found the place to find transcripts of Star Date. Here is today's: http://stardate.org/radio/program/2010-12-22

Every week day right before 3pm, there is a couple minute piece about something astronomy related on channel 88.7. Even with my background in Astronomy, I often learn something or have an interesting spot. I highly suggest catching the piece sometime. It is very everyone friendly.

Reminder: Best time of year to find deals is coming.

After December 25, keep your eyes open for deals. Most of them will be unadvertised. You just have to be on the lookout. Some of the best ones happen in January, too. I expect there to be a target sale in the middle of January, and a big borders toy sale, too. Watch the clearance racks. Some of the clothing stores are already advertising that they are getting rid of this seasons stock to get the next seasons in. Macy's often has a $5 rack. Know your prices so you know what is a deal. Don't just buy something because they are advertising it as a mark down. I often will stock up on classic things when I see them on clearance. You can always wear black or jeans. If you don't change sizes much, then this could be a good time to by pieces for cold weather. If you do or your little ones do, you could be stuck buying things that wont fit down the road. Also, we haven't had most of our cold weather yet, so if you haven't got a coat yet you should find them for cheap pretty soon.

My rule of thumb is any clothing item under $5 for adults is a good price, under $2-$3 is a good price for kids. Toys have to be 75% off or more. Clearance paper goods at 90% off. I am willing to get nonesense if it is under $1.

Things to Do When the world shuts down due to holidays (inside and out)

If the weather is nice:

1. Go to playgrounds. Most playgrounds are open and empty.
2. Go for a nature walk on the nature trails
3. Ride a bike or do something sporty.
4. play outside with sidewalk chalk and bubbles

If the weather is not nice:
1. Watch all those movies that we DVRed ahead of time
2. Watch more movies.  (stay away from the tv since nothing is going to be on except reruns)
3. play inside games and toys
4. read a book
5. Go eat chinese food
6. Go to the movies (except there is nothing I wanna watch. Yes, I am whining. )
7. Get together with friends
8. Do arts and crafts
9. Clean the house/car/garage/attic
10. Catch up on household chores
11. Sleep!

Money Saving Tip: My favorite Drink at Restaurants is Water with a lemon and a straw

I usually order water with a lemon or lime with a straw. Why you ask?

1. Water is the healthiest
2. Easiest way to hydrate.
3. Lemons make any water taste good
4. I subconsciously think that the citric acid from the lemon actually does something to make the water cleaner to drink.
5. Vitamin C.
6. Straw for ease of drinking. I definitely drink more when I have a straw
7. No Calories
8. No Caffeine
9. No sugar
10. No artificial colors
11. No carbonation/carbonic acid. Not that I am against carbonated drinks,
12. Free!

Most of the time, when I am out drinks are $2 or more. Just think about what percentage of your bill is going towards drinks. I often don't even like the drink choices offered. Fountain drinks dont taste the same as drinks straight from the bottle. I also try not to drink caffeine past a certain time of day. Plus, I don't like to drink things high in sugar, so that usually leaves me with tea. I have become a tea snob over the years. My favorite brand right is Numi by the way. So, that leaves me with water with lemon and a straw! One point in my life, I super hydrated. I simply carried water with me all the time AND DRANK IT! I lost a lot of weight by doing that. See if it helps y'all. (Reminder to self: Buy that Camel Bak and drink more water!!!)

Gap Sale: 30% off in store through Monday

We struck big today at the Gap Kids/Baby in Market Street! Grandma had fun and spent the least yet for our winter wardrobe. It sounds like the 30% off sale continues through Monday. It was also 40% off sale prices. I think I have to run back tomorrow to see what is left. My mom did say that the store looked pretty picked over.

FYI: We love Gap (even though I was "against" it in High School because everyone was wearing it) because they make the softest clothes. We also like the classic look. They seem to be copying Ralph Lauren a lot these days. Gap also runs big, is stretchy, and fits a variety of body types.

Re: Deal Finder E

The best deal I have seen is Dionysus in Market Street. Dionysus is offering "Buy a $100 Gift Card, get a $25 Gift Card free." Their prices are high to start with so this is a good way to rationalize the splurge. FYI: It is also my favorite places to get a haircut! Dennis is AMAZING. I feel like a Model with him!

Other Spa Deal ideas:
Euphoria on 242 next FINS. I know they were offering 20% off any purchase. I am not sure if that promo is still going on. This spa is beautiful and the staff is friendly.

I know there are quite a few spots on Rayford Road with lower than averages prices on mani/pedis. My goal is to find a Spa pedicure with a manicure for $25 before tip. I haven't really found that in The Woodlands area. I saw a $15 pedicure advertised somewhere on 2920.

The place in The Woodlands Mall near Dillards on the ground floor says they will take competitors coupons.

Let me know how it goes!

La Madeline Holiday Meal Deal

I love La Madeline! They are one of my favorite restaruants. Delicious and kid friendly!

I believe there is a 15% off coupon in The Woodlands CVB Discovery Guide. I bet it can be combined with the gift cards, too!

FYI: Other places where you can order dinner:
Hubble and Hudson
HEB

Also, Guri Do Sul is open Dec 24.

From my friend Becky!

The frugalista came out in me today.... as we live on another continent to family, I have cooked the full Christmas dinner every year for a decade, and having a 6 month old and 3 other kiddos, I decided to press the 'easy' button this year and to order Christmas dinner from La Madeleine - great food, and they have the best deal in town ($64.99 for a meal for 4-6 adults). Went to Market St today to order it when I saw in store "buy $25 gift card and get $5 card for free". So I bought $50 in gift cards, got $10 for free, and then used them to pay for my dinner order!

Easiness and Frugality = priceless!

Happy Holidays!!

Becky

Radio Flyer Sale on Amazon: Many 67% off items!

Wow! I am drooling over the cool Radio Flyer toys on Sale RIGHT NOW on Amazon. Too bad we don't need anything and we overstocked in toys for awhile. I consider Radio Flyer a good quality brand that makes durable products. I remember looking at them a lot a couple of years ago when Ben was in the 18 months - 2.5 age group. They have a lot of classic items. It is rare to see such a big sale. There are some major discounts and lots of items are at "buy me" prices. As with all things, read the reviews. Some things that are labeled Radio Flyer are better made and cheaper by other brands.

Leap Frog Learning DVD Sets are under $20 each!

Price Drop! We have both sets and LOVE them! We paid over $20 for each set.

Guri Do Sul half price

Yay, Amazon!

Amazon keeps pulling me in! There is a ton of cool stuff under $5 or over 40% off. I heart Melissa and Doug!

$10 off $20 Purchase at Barnes and Noble when you use a Mastercard

You can combine this with their Buy 2 Get 1 Free promo.

Read Couponing to Disney's post for more details on how to maximize this promotion: http://www.couponingtodisney.com/2010/12/15/barnes-noble-save-10-off-any-20-purchase-with-a-mastercard/

So, possible deal scenario is to find 3 games that are just over $10 each that qualify for the Buy 2 get 1 promo. It would turn into Buy 1 get 2 free!
