List of top 100 DJs of 2010

http://www.djmag.com/top100?page=1&year=2010

My New Favorite Channel: JLTV on 268

Wow! I am so excited. I have set my DVR for at least 10 shows.

I had fun watching Bubbe, Feed me. My mom is enjoying The Goldbergs, and I can't wait to see Infected Mushroom and Astral Projection next week.

Here is a link to their website: http://jltv.tv./home.php

My Shopping Day: 1/28/2011 (WALMART, HEB, and CVS)

HEB:
I used one of B1G1 coupons on Spenda. 100Ct are at $3.59 and 200 Cts are near $6.
I have another to use within the week. Someone else want it?

I grabbed one of the specialty breads for under $3 with in store coupon.

Laughing Cow Swiss Cheese
It was 2 for $4 and I had a $1 off manu coupon. Woohoo!

$1 off brown rice spicy tuna so less than the white rice this week.

They were out of chocolate mootopia again.

Walmart:
The McDs there still is doing $0.50 ice creams and $1 regular shakes.
I picked up their 2011 calendar for $1. It is well worth it! I am happy to find them since I missed the December promotion.

We found 2 really awesome flashlights, which were not on sale.

Motts for Totts Apple Juice jug $1.88 I didn't see any fruit punch, which they usually carry.

I saw some magnetic dry erase boards for cheap. I am being drawn to the craft supply section, a lot these days.

Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate for $1

CVS:
I got free mouth wash when I did 2 transaction when
I did the 5 Coca Cola 12 packs for $15 plus $5 ECB back.
I also used up my $10 ECB that I needed to use.

Borders:
They are doing B1G1 on their bargain bins. Nothing exciting.

Book Club: You Can Heal Your Life

The book that I am reading and loving right is called

You Can Heal Your Life.

I love it! It is completely speaking my language. Excellent reminders and affirmations. I recommend it to all. I love the beautiful images, too. Amazon has it on sale at 32% off right now.

Happy Reading and

How to help your children resist the lure of overprices prize games at restaurants.

Have a reserve of inexpensive prizes at home that you can access instead or offer them the choice between spending a dollar on that nonsense or going to the dollar store and picking out an item of their choice.

Remind them about the buddy bucks machine at HEB.

Offer to take them to Chuck E Cheese where they can have the dollar equivalent of tokens.

Places to get better inexpensive prizes:
Party City
Dollar Stores
Michaels
Target dollar section
Borders books bargain section/clearance
Candy sections of grocery stores.
Even Lakeshore learning has a few things under a dollar, but not really deals.

Tip of the Day: Get Ahead

Whatever you are doing, try to get ahead. I find it really helps me to feel like I am on top of things versus playing catch up. My day totally changes if I arrive some place early vs late.

When it comes to deal finding, anticipate your needs. Buy before you need something so you aren't running out at midnight and paying full price.

Wanted: Ideas on How we can improve the restrooms around The Woodlands

So, I am taking a class this semester at the school of public heath. I have chosen my research topic for the semester to be on improving our restrooms. I want your opinions. Please email me your ideas, thoughts, comments, and observations. Which bathrooms are you favorites and least favorites? Why? Why would you like to see changed?

I will keep y'all updated as the semester progresses on what I learn (and do!).

Thanks for your contributions.

Frequent B1G1 Bread at Hubble and Hudson before closing.

So, tonight I ran in to order the "Elizabeth" sandwich before closing after my class. Yum! I happened by the dessert/bread section. I learned that when they have a lot of bread left, they make it B1G1 or B1G2 free depending on how much is left. Tonight, was B1G1. I asked what time and they said anytime after 7:30pm -8pmish.

I then was shmoozing with the staff. I had fun. I love Hubble and Hudson.

Best Playgrounds for Big Kids

I have been meeting a lot of older kids, so I thought it was time to compile my list of the best playgrounds to go for older kids in The Woodlands. They all have elaborate climbing structures.

The Playground in front of the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center
Harpers Landing Playground
High Oaks
NorthShore Park (watch out for the younger kids)

Most playgrounds have something for bigger kids. These are just the ones that have a lot of good upper body things.

New Univ of Texas TV Network

So, in last night's class, we talked about being innovators. Innovators are those who hear things or adopt behaviors before everyone else. Here is an example of the inside information I receive every now and then. I am excited about a TV Netwon from UT Austin.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT | JANUARY 2011
Dear Friends,

I'm delighted to announce the creation of a 24-hour television network dedicated to covering intercollegiate athletics, music, cultural arts, and academics at The University of Texas at Austin.

At UT Austin, we want to define what it means to be the public research university of the 21st century. One of the challenges we face is creating new forms of revenue to support our mission. The UT network is one example of this effort.

The new network is a partnership among UT Austin, ESPN, and IMG College, our multimedia rights marketing partner. We have signed a contract that will guarantee $300 million over 20 years to UT Austin and IMG College.

The UT network will not only showcase all our athletics programs — it will give the world an unparalleled view of our academic enterprise and the creative and innovative people within it. The network will produce television that shares our programs in the performing arts, the humanities, the sciences, and other disciplines.

During the first five years of the contract, UT will receive about $10 million per year. For these five years, half of that income will be devoted to academic and faculty support. The remainder will support UT Athletics. We will determine at a later date how the funds will be used beyond the initial five-year period.

We plan to use the academic half of the royalty payments to support faculty excellence. To start this process, today I am announcing that we will create two $1-million endowed faculty chairs — one in the Philosophy Department and the other in the Physics Department. In this way, the UT network will generate millions of dollars for academic and faculty support, and it will strengthen the ability of UT Athletics to be self-sustaining.

This network would not have been possible without the contributions of many people, especially without our strong and enduring bond with our friends, alumni, and fans. The UT family has no equal — and it's a family that extends to almost every corner of the world. It is this loyalty and support that will make the network a success.

Our Men's and Women's Athletics Directors, DeLoss Dodds and Chris Plonsky, were essential to the creation of the network, and I thank them. This network is the result of a vision DeLoss has pursued for many years. Creating this network is the culmination of that vision and is emblematic of the enormous contributions he has made to our University.

There is no model for the kind of network we're creating, so we have our work cut out for us before the launch date in September 2011. I hope you will enjoy this opportunity to view a much wider assortment of programming from UT Austin. For more information about access to the UT network, contact your local television provider.

The Woodlands Target Update

I went tonight. It is true that almost every section of the store has quite a bit of things on clearance. There are still toys left. The bad news is that it is pretty picked over. The only thing I got on clearance was a Secret Deoderant 2 pack for $4. 50 ish. That is about $0.50 more than the price I paid for 1 a week ago when I ran out and had to pay retail. I found a couple of good $1 items. So, I guess I didn't really need anything either besides the undies for my little one that I went into to target for. So, my advice is that you shouldn't make a special trip to go just for the clearance at this point. Only go if you were thinking about doing a normal target shop and keep your eyes open for deals.

ps. There were still some baby items on clearance.

Local Non-Profit: Friends of Texas Wildlife

Now, I know who to contact when I find injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife.

From The Woodlands E-newsletter:

The Friends of Texas Wildlife is a wildlife rescue group consisting of trained and permitted volunteers, who care for injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife in Montgomery and North Harris Counties. This non-profit organization is the only rescue group in Montgomery County with rehabbers permitted by U.S. Fish and Wildlife and Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments. The Friends of Texas Wildlife receives no agency funding and relies solely on donations and memberships.  Many of the rehabbers frequently pay for vet bills and wildlife care.   For information on how you can help, visit www.friendsoftexaswildlife.org

Free Touch-a-Truck: Saturday, February 26 from 9 am – 11 am

Touch-a-Truck is a free event scheduled for Saturday, February 26 from 9 am – 11 am in the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center parking lot.

At least it wont be so hot in February. I suggest going early to beat the crowds.

Also, FYI, you can go anytime you want to a local Fire Station to check out their trucks and gear. No appointment necessary. If they are there, they are happy to show you around.

I have seen a lot of emergency vehicles at community events for kids to explore, so don't feel like you have to go to the Touch a Truck event as your only opportunity. Tip: while you are in creekside, check out the george mitchell preserve and the playgrounds there.

More Advice: Get organized

I just cleaned out part of my bathroom. I am attacking the whole upstairs. It is much easier to know and use your stuff if you can find it when you need it. I feel like I accomplished something by cleaning up.

TUT Mike Dooley to speak in Dallas and Houston!

TUT is one of my favorite inspirational email lists.

Here is the email they sent me about the Tour.

----

Playing the Matrix... And Getting What You (Really) Want

Let's step things up together with my latest and most practical material ever, in a program that revolves around 6 hours of manifesting revelations!

  • Dallas, TX - Saturday February 12, 2011
  • Houston, TX - Sunday February 13, 2011

During my last tour "Manifesting Change," I created and introduced "The Matrix," which is unlike anything ever shared by other teachers, past and present, and it was consistently rated by participants as among their favorite parts of the day. The Matrix reveals the interconnectedness of all your dreams, and how they flow together, which when played "properly" will ultimately bring you your greatest happiness and fastest life changes. It explains why manifesting sometimes works with incredible ease, and why at other times it seems virtually impossible. Here's a preview of all we'll cover together:

  • How We (and How To!) Program the Circumstances of Our Lives
  • The Matrix - A "Whole-Life" Approach to Change
  • Understanding What You (Really) Want
  • Defining Your End Results without Attaching to the Details
  • Taking Action without Worrying about the HOWS
  • Express Delivery!
  • Dancing LIFE's Ultimate Dance

This workshop includes brand new material, stories, and exercises. Our shared experience will leave you convinced of your power, your worth, and how easy life can be once you begin working with the Universe instead of against it.

Everything else you need to know, including location, price, and how to sign up can be found here: World Tour III

If you have specific questions, just email Angie at: adventure@tut.com

I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Mike Dooley
www.tut.com

P.S. Elizabeth, I guarantee you will hear things during our time together that you have not heard from others, anywhere, ever. And that you'll gain new insights and possess new tools to begin creating the life you always dreamed would be yours.

P.P.S. This material will also be delivered during TUTs Mayan Jungle Cruise and African Safari. Check the schedule for locations that may interest you! World Tour III

Lake Shore Learning on Post Oak

I have always liked Lake Shore Learning. Yesterday, I went to the location on Post Oak next to Kenny and Ziggy's. Can I just "Wow!". It was amazing. They had what we have plus more! If anyone is looking for teaching/educational supplies this is THE place to go. Remember to bring your coupons and sign up for the educator's club. Every Saturday they have crafts.

Houston Lakeshore Learning store

2405 Post Oak Blvd. Houston, TX 77056 713-355-1893

Deal on NY Deli?

Ok, so my family is big on NY Deli. Really, we are big on food of all sorts. My mom rationalized this deal.

Kenny and Ziggy's will deliver anything for a $75 deliver fee. (which is what we usually do for big events we want to have catered)

My mom discovered that Zabar's does overnight shipping for $85 from NYC. Sweet!

Of course, it is cheaper just to go to either place and not have to pay shipping.

Zabar's Deals: Free shipping when you buy 4lbs of coffee, free shipping on gift baskets, free shipping if you live within 150 miles of NYC, it looks like they are having a 50% off sale and a free tote with $50 purchase.

Kenny and Ziggy's Deals: Take out is cheaper then sit down.

Tips for Creating your Price Book

Here is a nice post from Common Sense With Money about Creating a Price Book. This is a great way to keep track of when a deal is a deal. I suggest making yours electronic if you can for easy editing. If you can access google spreadsheets, then maybe we can all share our price books.

Another tip is to add the date of when you noticed that price. Sometimes, you can observe trends and cycles.

Cotton/Snow Ball Fight

Remember my post about this? Fun Winter Craft Item: Cotton Balls

Here are some more ideas:
Have a Cotton Ball/Snow Ball Fight

Office Depot Deals: $1 office Supplies

$1 100 Big Paper Clips
$1 Writing Pad
$1 Sharpies
$1 8' Scissors
$1 Binder Clips
$1 Composition Books (That is the max I would pay for one)

Free Umbrella at World Market with $10 Purchase.

A lot of stores have loss leaders just to get you in the door. I wonder if they have much from their holiday clearance left. I am sure you can stack this with their coupons, too.

I expect to see a lot more promotions like this everywhere this month to boost business.

Michaels Ad

Of all the Sunday Ads, the Michaels Ad caught my attention the most. There were quite a few things under a $1.

I have a new idea. Look in other sections for things you need. For example, sometimes it is cheaper to by "scrapbook" storage items for desk supplies or vice a versa. Be creative. Look beyond the packaging.

The best deal I saw were Valentine's Foam stickers for $4.

Gift Idea: Make your own craft kit to give to someone. Buy discounted supplies and put it in a cute container to give to someone as a present.

Here is a good post about Saving Money Eating out by Couponing to Disney.

The tip that I use on a regular basis that has given me more free food with no strings attached more than anything is signing up for the places I eat at email lists.

Host an "Iranium" Movie Screening or watch it for Free online

Here are the details to host a movie screening: http://www.iraniumthemovie.com/take-action/

You can sign up here to watch it for free online on February 8, 2011

If you haven't seen "Obsession," yet, then I highly suggest checking it out. It helped me understand terrorism on a whole new level.

I still really want to watch "The Third Jihad." It is on my movie to do list.

It really resonated with me.

I love You Tube! You can find anything!

Deal Finding Tips: Learn your prices and buy ahead

My first tip to finding a deal is learning what is a deal. Watch prices. Pay attention to how much you spend on every single item that you buy. Pretty soon you'll notice that prices fluctuate and you'll see highs and lows. By buying ahead when the price is low, you don't have to buy it when the price is high.

If you need help remembering prices, you can keep a notebook. This is also a good way to keep track of the different prices of items at different stores.

HEB Stock Up items

From the Wed Ad I saw that Goldfish is $0.98/bag. That is a "buy me" price for me!

Also, Aquafina is $3.99/24 pack.

They have a lot of the same places that have popped up in The Woodlands recently.

Free Sample of Cream of Wheat Cinnabon

The form took 2 seconds to fill out: http://www.creamofwheat.com/cinnabon/

My mom likes to add butter and splenda to the original. Add cinnamon and I bet it is similar in flavor.

Double and Trip Coupons

Stores that do Double and Triple Coupons in our area:

Randalls

"Just wanted to let you know that !rookeshire brothers is doing

Where else?

My Starbucks Strategy

So, whenever I go to Starbucks, I order a tall cup of pike place roast. I ask them to put it into a larger cup so I can add milk and sugar.

I get a free flavoring and free refills because I have a "free" registered card. My drinks add up to another free drink.

FYI: You can get a $1 cup of coffee at most fast food restaurants. So, I rationalize that by getting a free refill, it is about the same.

Pike Place® Roast
Our smooth, balanced Pike Place Roast makes perhaps the perfect cup of coffee. We created this blend to meet a wide range of tastes. Whether you prefer it straight up or complemented with cream and sugar, we promise a satisfying cup that's rich in flavor yet balanced enough to enjoy every day. Drop by any Starbucks store and enjoy a Tall cup for just $1.50 every day at participating Starbucks or pick up a bag of our smoothest roast to brew at home today.

Tip of the Day: Get Organized!

In everything you do.

I feel much less stress when I feel organized.

Take the time to clean out that junk drawer. Get on top of your coupons. Do whatever it takes to bring order to your life!
