BACKYARD MONSTERS: THE WORLD OF INSECTS

It's a bird, it's a plane. no, it's a Monarch butterfly with a six meter wingspan, and it's at The Health Museum this spring! See the world through an insect's compound eye, take a Robo-Bug for a walk, and more in our newest featured exhibit. Through larger-than-life animatronics, including an impressive tarantula, a world-class insect specimen collection, and interactive education stations, you'll discover the wonderful world of the creepy crawlies that live all around us.  Recommended for Grades PreK and up

MUSEUM EDUCATOR OPEN HOUSE

9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Health Museum is one of the five host museums for the Houston Museum District's 2010 Museum Educator Open House. This event is FREE for all Houston area educators, school administrators, home school educators, and student teachers.

Start the day by joining us for a cup of Starbucks and a sneak peak at this spring's limited engagement exhibition Backyard Monsters: The World of Insects, take in a showing of Matter Unleashed, find out how your students' work can be exhibited in the museum, and more.

DUKE TIP ACADEMIC ADVENTURES

So you think you might want to be a surgeon?  An author?  How about a a video game designer?  Explore these careers and more during the Spring 2010 Duke TIP Academic Adventures in the Houston Museum District.  Geared towards G/T students in Grades 5 and 6, these courses promote creativity and critical thinking and allow students to explore topics not typically covered in school.
