FAMILIES WELCOME - FREE ADMISSION - ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES!


Sail Away: Art and the Sea will take families on a voyage through the exhibitions Sargent and the Sea and Prendergast in Italy.


  • Embark on an interactive, hands-on journey exploring works of art in the MFAH exhibitions Sargent and the Sea and Prendergast in Italy.

  • Make your own work of art as you capture your own image of the sea using texture plates and a fun rubbing technique!

  • Sketch seaside scenes.

  • Be swept away by music performed by the Honors Chamber Orchestra from the Project GRAD Houston Fine Arts Program at 2 and 3 p.m.

  • Listen to enchanting stories that take place around the sea as you explore vivid works of art from the Prendergast in Italy exhibition.

  • Go on a journey through the depths of the color blue as you create your own work of art using multiple shades of blue tissue paper.

  • Gaze at the vast splendor of undersea life in the Family Flick, Deep Blue, at 2 p.m.
